This is a vintage Japanese wooden doll called a kokeshi

Wooden Laquer Kokeshi Head Box W/ Face Hand Painted & Lidded Cute Red Pink Koro where his image proliferated asThis is a lidded wooden lacquer box in the shape of a kokeshi head. The face hair and flowers are all hand painted in colored lacquer. The makers mark can be seen on the bottom (see pic 7). This box remains in good condition. It measures 4 1 2" in diameter and 2 1 2" tall (10 x 6cm).
