Compact and beautifully proportioned, this squat mug (kypellon) carries one of antiquity's most powerful images: Eros, winged and at rest, seated with the easy composure of a god between errands. The kypellon form, low, wide bellied, with a flared rim and small loop handle, was a vessel of the household, intimate in scale and handled daily. Here it becomes a vehicle for some of
